Personal Social and Health Education

At Great Dalby Primary School the children's social and emotional well-being is at the core of everything we do.  Within PSHE there are three core themes:  Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World.  We have weekly, whole-school assesmblies which cover some of these topics and then at class level, we explore these themes further through a range of activities including circle time discussions, role-play and games (such as human-bingo).  In these weekly discreet sessions, the children have the opportunity to learn and express their feelings in a safe and secure way.

Currently, we are developing a character-based curriculum where the children are encouraged to recognise the importance of developing themsleves; so in maths we may be learning about 'column addition' but we are also problem solving, being resilient and persevering!  Other character traits we are developing include developing courage, grit, determination, reasoning skills, cooperation, questioning, confidence, humility, kindness, respect, optimism and team work!
