History and geography are foundation subjects within the National Curriculum. Geography is concerned with the study of places, the human and physical processes that shape them, and the people who live in them. Children study their local area, parts of Leicestershire, and localities in the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. At Great Dalby, geography helps children to gain a greater understanding of the ways of life and cultures of people in other places. Enjoyable and varied activities are planned to allow our children to build upon their knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts. Where ever possible we try to form a cross curricular link so that the children gain exposure to many aspects of life in the chosen locality. We encourage the children to actively challenge and develop their understanding of geographical concepts. All activities that are planned involve the children in active enquiry, fieldwork, map work and the use of information technology.
