Welcome back and Happy New Year! A few gentle reminders and updates regarding this term:
The World and Other Places! This term we turn our attention to the world around us and we kick start our new year with Winter. We will use winter as our stimulus for reading and writing, in poetry, and in our artwork. We will be learning about forces and states of matter this term and will get to know Spain a little better by studying both the human and physical geography of this country. Fair Trade week will take us further afield too but we will also be under attack from the Anglo Saxons later in the term as once again our green and pleasant land is invaded! It's going to be another busy term up until Easter so take a look at our topic web below for details about what we will be learning!
PE will be on Monday afternoons (with Mr Hackett) and will continue to have an outdoor feel as we will be doing as much outside as we can (weather permitting). This term we will focus on basketball and where possible I recommend trainers as plimsolls just wont make the grade especially as the courts can be wet and slippy at times. Please remember to label all PE kit. Year 4's will be swimming on Wednesday mornings so don't forget your kit!
Our new homework seems to be going down well - the children are doing loads of reading which is fantastic! Don't forget to keep an eye on the reading challenge books - we have read a few in Class 4 but need a few more to keep us steaming ahead. TT Rockstars has proved a great success and I am really seeing the benefits of quick recall in their maths lessons. Please encourage your children to have a go. It's not all about competitions so if this is holding them back the best place to play is in the garage! Sounds a bit weird but trust me, your children will know what I mean! We will need our multiplication and division number facts lots this term as we will be figuring our fractions!
Music - going from strength to strength for the year 4's and all the children who continued this year ! We hoped you enjoyed our performances at our Christmas Carol Service. It goes without saying we really could not be this good unless we practise regularly and remember our instruments on a Tuesday so please keep encouraging your children to practise as much as possible.
It is a shorter term this time around and I have lots planned so I am sure it will fly by! I am really looking forward to working with the children again this term - they really are a great bunch! Mrs Cobb is joining us in Class 4 to deliver and support our learning as Mrs Harrison has gone into Class 5 (for a rest!) Have a look at our topic web. Before you know it, it will be Easter!!!!
If you feel you have any spare time or experience or expertise in anything we are learning this term please do not hesitate to come in to share it with us. Any help is always gratefully received!
Finally, please come and find me if you have any questions or give the office a ring to pass on a message.
